Evisceration Utilizing an Intrascleral Implant.

چکیده
A ENEWED interest in evisceration, utilizing an intrascleral implant, has been apparent since the fear of sympathetic ophthalmitis has been largely dispelled by the reports of the results of evisceration in over 200 cases by Ruedemann (1958a, b), 190 cases by Poulard (1936), and 188 cases previously reported by Berens, Carter, and Breakey (1956, 1957). The purpose of this paper is to evaluate more cases after a longer post-operative period and to discuss recent experiences with a steel-mesh covered implant. There appears to be no question that greater motility of the prosthesis is obtained after evisceration. There is less enophthalmos and deepening of the supra-tarsal sulcus than occurs after enucleation.

Intraocular tissue distribution of betamethasone after intrascleral administration using a non-biodegradable sustained drug delivery device.
PURPOSE To evaluate the tissue distribution of betamethasone (BM) after implantation of a nonbiodegradable intrascleral implant as a new, controlled intraocular delivery system. METHODS Nonbiodegradable intrascleral implants designed to release BM for at least 1 month were placed in the sclera of pigmented rabbits. The BM concentrations in the aqueous humor, vitreous, and retina-choroid were ...
متن کاملTreatment of Intractable Orbital Implant Exposure with Scleral Melting By Secondary Implant of Dermis Fat Graft-A Case Report
A 30 year old female with absolute glaucoma status post-evisceration developed recurrent orbital implant exposure and scleral melting. We successfully treated the large conjunctiva defect by utilizing secondary implant of dermis fat graft for tissue growth and tension-free conjunctiva closure. The patient was satisfied with the postoperative outcome, and no major complications were observed in ...
متن کاملA comparison of implant extrusion rates and postoperative pain after evisceration with immediate or delayed implants and after enucleation with implants.
PURPOSE To examine implant extrusion rates after evisceration with immediate or delayed implants in patients with culture-proven endophthalmitis. To compare postevisceration and postenucleation pain. METHODS This prospective, nonrandomized interventional case series included four groups of patients: group 1, 25 endophthalmitis patients undergoing evisceration with immediate implants; group 2,...

PURPOSE To assess the results and long-term prognosis of evisceration with primary porous implant placement in patients with endophthalmitis. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted to review the files of 27 patients (29 eyes) with endophthalmitis who underwent evisceration with primary porous implant placement from January 1997 to December 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital and Kangnam St. Mary...
